Men's zip hoodie BR 218

In the 1950s, when planning a new generation of locomotives, the German Federal Railways (Deutsche Bundesbahn) needed a machine with a power output between the V100 and V200 series.

In 1969, 12 pre-series locomotives were therefore produced as part of the well-known "V160 family" and given the designation 218. Series production of 398 machines took place between 1971 and 1979, with MaK, Krupp, Henschel, and Krauss-Maffei participating.

This "218" was capable of speeds of up to 140 km/h, weighed 80 tons, and measured 16.4 meters. For decades, it was one of the main diesel locomotives of the Bundesbahn, along with its sister series BR 215, 216, and 217. Even today, its power output of up to 2,800 horsepower is used primarily in regional transport by DB Regio in southern Germany, but also in long-distance transport, car trains on the North Sea coast, and by various private railway companies.

The locomotive is equipped with hydraulic power transmission, a hydrodynamic brake, and electric heating for trains.
