A heroine of the post-war development of the electrification of the Czechoslovak railways.
A beautiful, shiny machine will be our pride and joy. It has elegant lines, the bright colours of the new machine will remain vivid and sparkling for a long time. All traffic, indeed all life, will brighten around such a machine.
That's what the press said about the E499.0 in 1950s. No wonder. Even after 70 years of life on the rails, Bobina has not lost anything of its beauty and elegance!
In 1953-1958, the Pilsen plant produced one hundred of these first post-war locomotives for the DC electrical system. They became a symbol of the electrification of our lines and the success of the builders, albeit with Swiss licensing elements.
Several operational units have survived to this day and can still be seen on regular passenger and freight services.
