After 50 long years of reliable operation of EMU29.0 rack and pinion units and the overhaul of the rack and pinion from Štrba to Štrbské pleso, 5 new 495.95 adhesion-gear electric units from Swiss Stadler will appear on the narrow gauge lines of the Tatra Electric Railway in 2021.
The unit is based on the concept of GTW - Gelenktriebwagen (articulated motor car). It consists of three links - the middle "powerpack" and the outermost control cars. The maximum speed of the unit is 80 km/h and it is powered by 1 500 V DC system.
Each of the five electric locomotives bears the name of a Tatra peak - Bradavice, Stredohrot, Kostolík, Vysoká and Ganek.
